WorkSpace Easteregg

It has been sometime since I had time to post anything on here, but the wait is worth it as I will share a great secret with you.

Now before WorkSpace is forgotten forever (it was included in TRADOS 5 and 5.5), I wanted to share a hidden game or Easteregg as you might call it in the program. You will probably have to install this old version, as I don’t think there are a alot of people with it still installed.

It is called “WorkSpace Invaders” and is a clone of the famous Space Invaders game.

WorkSpace Invaders

Here’s how you get the game:

  1. Open WorkSpace
  2. Enter a Website into the address bar and “Enter”
  3. Now go back so that you are back in the WorkSpace Environment
  4. Then enter “WorkSpace Invaders” (without quotes) into the address bar
  5. Press the Forward Button
  6. Voila, WorkSpace invaders should launch

Have fun playing and let me know your best score ;)

When you open a INX file in TagEditor the whitespaces get duplicated

This happens when using a non-OS font in the InDesign file.  To prevent this from happening, you should go into the Filter Settings (Start->All Programs->SDL TRADOS 7->Filters) and untick the "Show Display Formatting" box.

This will lead to all text being shown as Arial in TagEditor. However the final InDesign file will still be in the correct fonts.

java.lang.OutOfMemory error when cleaning big *.inx.ttx files or saving as target

This is an error that has been reported a lot this week.

So we have created a Knowledge Base Article for this. This only happens when a big InDesign CS2 file is involved.

Please refer to http://support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=1630 for a solution.

I’m off to my well deserved Weekend now ;)

It’s been a long time since I last posted as I had some quite busy weeks ;)

Anyways as you probably already saw, SDL has announced the new SDL TRADOS 2006 Release.

What happens is, you will get TRADOS 2006 and SDLX 2006 for one price :)

It will also boast an OpenOffice Filter for TagEditor which allows you to directly open OpenOffice Files in TagEditor.
Furthermore you will also get a new tool called Glue which allows you to “glue” multiple HTML, XML, etc. files into one for easier QA Checking for example.

The SDL TRADOS TM Server 2006 Release will introduce support for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 along with some big performance improvements.

“Logging on…” Message when opening Word and MultiTerm 7.1 Template is added

We are seeing this message a lot nowadays. Mostly in Corporate environments where User Rights are less.

This error can be resolved by granting Rights to the “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TRADOS\MultiTerm\Termbases” folder. This is where the MTMaster.mdb and all the Termbases are stored since MT 7.

As a Freelancer you will probably not encounter this message :)

New InDesign CS2 Filter in SDL TRADOS 7.1

With the Release of SDL TRADOS 7.1 there is a new filter for InDesign CS2.

But this one works radically different from the “old” InDesign StoryCollectors. This was necessary because the StoryCollector Workflow had a lot of issues especially in combination with TOCs, Indexes, Hyperlinks and Bookmarks.

With the new filter you can just export an InDesign CS2 file in the “InDesign Interchange” Format (*.INX). The resulting file can then be opened directly in TagEditor. Once it is translated, it can be saved as *.INX again and be directly opened in InDesign CS2.

Using this new workflow the above mentioned issues are eliminated :)

Open Next no 100%/Get leads to TagEditor 7.1 Crash

Please note that there is a bug in TagEditor 7.1 if you downloaded your SDL TRADOS 7.1 Package before 21st December 2005. If you downloaded SDL Trados 7.1 after 21st December 2005, you should not encounter this problem.
This bug leads to a crash whenever using either the “Open Next no 100%/Get” or “Set Close Next no 100% Open Get” functions in TagEditor.

You can see if you have the bugged version by going to Help->About in TagEditor.

If the Build Number is still 719, you have the buggy version. If you have Build Number 720 in TagEditor, you are fine.

There is a KB Article available which also includes the hotfix downloads: http://support.trados.com/view.asp?cntID=1610

Entry Point Not Found Errors in SDL TRADOS 7.1

These seem to occur a lot using SDL TRADOS 7.1, e.g. when hitting the Browse button in the Analyse window. These errors occur because of an older version of TRADOS being registered, e.g TRADOS 6.5.

However this can be easily fixed by Registering SDL TRADOS 7.1. To do this follow these steps:

  1. Close all SDL TRADOS Applications
  2. Click Start
  3. Click All Programs
  4. Look for “SDL TRADOS 7″ in the Programs List
  5. Select “Register SDL TRADOS 7″
